Instructor: Jonna Smith
Instructor Bio: I watched my Mother sew for as long as I can remember, but I credit my Step- mom for teaching me. My Step-Mom (who doesn't sew) was the one who actually let me touch her sewing machine when I was 13. She taught me how to thread a machine and actually let me touch her machine. I was thirteen and I was hooked!. I started with a simple soft box, then went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought my first pattern. I did crafts and sewed my own clothes through hHigh sSchool. Then One day my mMom came home with her aAunt?s Ttreadle machine and decided we should make my Grandma a quilt on using the Treadle. I had lots of fun but really didn't know what I was doing until we I moved to Germany and where I joined my first qQuilt Gguild in Stuttgart, Germany: - The Black Forest Quilt Guild in Stuttgart, Germany. I discovered that ny. Yyes, I was making all my quilts wrong (but they still looked great)., I was using 5/8 seam allowance and ironing all my seams open. They filled a lot of my knowledge gaps and fixed most of my bad habits. Today I enjoy all parts of making a quilt, from picking out the perfect pattern, picking outselecting the fabric, cutting and piecing the top, quilting the quilt, to sewing on the binding. I love to do traditional piecing, Ppaper Ppiecing, aApplique, and making my own patterns. In the last 8 years I have gotten into eEmbroidery. . In addition to pre-made patterns I enjoy dDigitizing, quilting in the hoop, and stitching out custom designs. So iIf you have Bernina version V8 software or Designworks questions, I'm your girl. My first job in sewing was at Cross Patches in Collinsville, IL as a sales person, general service technician, and instructor. I was able to attend the Bernina Technical Training courses and became a certified Bernina Technician in August 2012. I moved to Chesapeake, VA in 2015 and have worked as a technician and instructor at Nancy?s Calico Patch, Blue Crab, and now Sunshine Quilt Corner.
