Color Theory - Color Wheel Workshop

Color sets the mood both in your home decorations and in your quilts. Don't say that
you're not good at color - you can easily learn the basics about color and how to make it
work for you. Topics covered will be the color wheel, color terminology, color
temperature, visual texture, the psychology of color, and special effects. You will make a
color wheel using fabric swatches and samples to demonstrate the various effects. In this 6-hour workshop, you'll build your own color wheel with 2" fabric pieces and learn how to make your quilts sing with color!

There is a separate $25 kit fee for this workshop that is paid to the presenter.

You must attend the Color Basics lecture to participate in the Color Wheel Workshop.

Supply list – Please bring to the class
1) 3” squares of fabric from your stash
2) Sharp scissors, a glue stick, scotch tape, and a pencil.
3) A picture of an object or scene that has colors that appeal to you. Landscape or
underwater photos work the best. Check your old National Geographic magazines!
Photos of people do not work very well.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details:
Instructor: Lise Schioler
Instructor Bio: Lise started life as an artist. Her mother was a textile artist and so she was exposed to every type of textile work from cleaning sheep's wool, spinning the yarn, weaving, bobbin lace, vegetable dying, macrame, knitting, crocheting, sewing clothing, etc all before she finished high school. In college, Lise studied with a well-known Japanese potter and got her BFA in pottery. Then for some unknown reason (but probably related to paying rent and eating), Lise switched to engineering and science, at which she worked for about 40 years. In 1994 she discovered quilting and was instantly addicted. Lise's work ranges from traditional bed quilts to wall hangings that push the definition of a quilt. Lise has taught a variety of textile related classes. Now that she's retired, she has more time for quilting and teaching.
